Those Backstreet Boys aren’t just singing about “The Call.” They’re making it. ARTISTdirect.com, home of Backstreet’s official online store, is letting fans (or more likely their parents) order a phone call from one of the members for delivery on or before Valentine’s Day. At $4.95 each, the pre- recorded greetings (which the sender can personalize) sound like they may work for a company whose list of most successful fan Web casts includes N’Sync. ARTISTdirect, which has about 1.5 million online users of all ages, is spreading news of the promotion primarily via email and its Web site.

Hot on their heels are Maximo Park, whose new album is inspired by the no-less-praiseworthy blue star on top of the Newcastle Brown Ale factory in their home town. Paul Smith (above), has dedicated the new single “Our Velocity” to the tipple, which seems to have oiled their No 2 album nicely.

Elsewhere, erstwhile poodle-haired rockers Bon Jovi are back with their 10th studio album at No 2, helped along by a UK stadium tour which culminates this Sunday with the launch of the 02 in London’s Docklands. And at No 3 The Police celebrate 30 years since the release of their first single with their 10th album, a self-titled compilation of 30 songs.
