Handed Over - Gavin Mikhail
Track #2 — My Personal Beauty Needs. Gavin’s debut album released 2003. Followed up by ‘Like Normal People Do’ in 2006. Gavin is at present recording his 3rd album, which is very much awaited by his fans…. Currently penned for release late spring/summer this year.
We all know Gavin has amazing talent in writing beautiful songs, and they all come from his very own personal life and experiences and those around him…. This is why we all connect so deeply to his music, because his songs are real!
Ok so, I am not technically mind and certainly not as clever as you guys who have made some awesome videos using Gavin’s songs and real film footage…. So here is my attempt to express the story of what inspired Gavin to write to ‘Handed Over’
A little background info to the song — Gavin wrote ‘Handed Over’ when his little sister graduated college. The same as Gavin, they both went through the soul-searching thing. And it was Gavin’s way of saying ‘do your thing and everything will be ok’. A song about doing what you love and realizing that if you give up on what matters to you, you’ll ultimately be unhappy. As hard as it is, you have to hang in there and keep pushing that rock up the hill…
My favourite line in the song, ‘I’m a little bit tired… I’m a little bit jaded… And I need someone to tell me you can make it…’ It’s the reminder, though, that it’s hard to stay positive sometimes. Everyone gets down and everyone needs help sometimes. And, that’s ok… Pulls me back to reality every time I hear it!
