Spongebob Squarepants Theme Song- Avril Lavigne

Avril Lavigne was born in Belleville, Ontario on September 27, 1984.[18][19] to a devout Christian family[20][21] of French-Canadian descent. Lavigne’s mother was the first to spot young Lavigne’s talent. At the age of two, Lavigne began singing along with her mother on church songs. The family moved to Napanee, Ontario, when Lavigne was five years old.In 1998, Avril Lavigne won a competition to sing with fellow Canadian singer Shania Twain on her first major concert tour. She appeared alongside Twain at her concert in Ottawa, appearing on stage to sing “What Made You Say That”.She was discovered by her first professional manager, Cliff Fabri, while singing country covers at a Chapters bookstore in Kingston, Ontario.[18] During a performance with the Lennox Community Theatre, Lavigne was spotted by local folk singer Steve Medd, who invited her to sing on his song “Touch the Sky” for his 1999 album Quinte Spirit. She also sang on “Temple of Life” and “Two Rivers” for his follow up album, My Window to You, in 2000.[18]At the age of sixteen she was signed by Ken Krongard, the artists-and-repertoire (A&R) representative of Arista Records, who invited the head of Arista, Antonio “L.A.” Reid, to hear her sing at the New York City studio of producer Peter Zizzo.[18]She then completed work on her first album, Let Go. The Matrix, who worked extensively with Lavigne on the album, commented on her songwriting, saying, “We had a fabulous and unique experience with Avril, who was then a 16-year-old rapidly growing songwriter with tremendous raw talent. The songs were conceived on piano and guitar by four people: The Matrix (3) and Avril. Avril was instrumental in the songs’ creation. We were all very close during the making of the record.”[Main article: Let Go (Avril Lavigne album)
Let Go was released on June 4, 2002 in the United States, it has reached number two there and number one in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. This made Lavigne, at seventeen, the youngest female soloist to have a number-one album in the UK up until that time.[23]
The album shows definite pop rock/indie pop roots; however, alternative and post-grunge influences can be heard in some of the songs.
Just over one month after its release, Let Go reached multi-platinum status in late-August,[24] and was certified triple platinum two weeks after.[25] Before the end of 2002, just six months after its debut, it was certified four times platinum by the RIAA.[26] It sold a total of 14 million copies worldwide. It was the best selling album of the year for a female artist and for a debut album in 2002.[27] As of December 2007 the album has sold 6.6 million copies in the U.S and more than 16 million worldwide.
Four singles from the album were released. The first single, “Complicated” went to number one in Australia, while reaching number two on the U.S. Hot 100, and it was one of the best-selling Canadian singles of 2002. Lavigne tied a record set by Natalie Imbruglia’s “Torn” when “Complicated” held the number one spot on the contemporary hit radio chart (which tracks air play on the radio) for eleven weeks in a row.[28] “Sk8er Boi” reached the top ten in the U.S. and Australia, “I’m with You” reached the top ten in the U.S and the UK, and “Losing Grip” reached the top ten in Taiwan and the top twenty in Chile.Lavigne was named “Best New Artist” at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards, won four Juno Awards in 2003 (out of six nominations), received a World Music Award for “World’s Best-Selling Canadian Singer”, and was nominated for eight Grammy Awards, including “Song of the Year” for “Complicated” and “Best New Artist”.

The first single from the album was “Girlfriend”, which became Lavigne’s first single to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100. On Ryan Seacrest’s radio show Lavigne said that “When You’re Gone” would be the second single. Avril’s third single from the album is “Hot”.
This album has a high punk-pop influence, with punk rock guitar riffs and poppy choruses.
“Girlfriend” has been used as the theme song for the Japanese idol hosted talk show Cartoon KAT-TUN. On May 2, 2007, she made a guest appearance during the show. She played a game of darts with the KAT-TUN group.
Lavigne has been doing a small tour to promote The Best Damn Thing, with tickets available only to members of her fan club.[36] She began the tour in Calgary, Alberta, and played for a crowd of around two hundred. This show was aired on television on April 2, 2007, on the CBC Network. The album had sold a total of 4.1 million copies worldwide in by December 2007.

Open Question: does anyone know if the remake of Dio’s Holy Diver by Killswitch Engage has been released yet?

Ennio Morricone - Deep Down
The stylish 1960s Italian/French movie Danger: Diabolik is known for two things. In some circles its a cult classic. Its based on an Italian comic and stars a dashing antihero thief with anarchic pretensions, and features gorgeous, lavish sets, tons of positively continental late-60s pizazz, and a suitably caper-ish soundtrack by Ennio Morricone. In other, perhaps larger circles, its also known as the last crappy film Mystery Science Theatre 3000 ever lampooned before Mike and the bots came crashing back to Earth. If you know anything about MST3K, its the premise: a hapless guy and the robots hes made are locked in a spaceship and forced to watch really bad movies, a fate they deal with by mercilessly poking fun at the movies as they play. Does that make Diabolik a bad movie? Well, sort of—its pretty unbelievable that a slick master thief who wears silly masks all the time would have a huge underground lair with gadgets and Rube Goldberg devices lying around, as Diabolik does. But as a fan of the movie pointed out on IMDB, isnt that basically what Batman is—a man working outside the law who wears silly costumes and has an inexplicably giant and ornate underground lair? Besides which, compared to most of the movies MST3K lampoons, Danger: Diabolik actually has a soundtrack that doesnt suck, composed by one of cinemas greatest. Deep Down would probably be a more effective theme if it wasnt so obviously rehashed five times during the course of the film, but maybe thats why Morricone was reportedly never happy with Diaboliks soundtrack. It probably also works better in Italian than English. This version is the semi-officially released Italian version, cleaned up and apparently pressed to seven-inch—Morricone completists would know better than I. Though most of Morricones soundtracks have since found release, Danger: Diabolik isnt one of them—the best anyones found so far is apparently a bootleg CD, recorded from the movie itself (which is why you can hear Diaboliks over-the-top evil laugh at the beginning). I havent put that version up for two reasons: the sound quality isnt as good, and the English lyrics will make you wince in pain. Better to stick with the Italian version and dream of trans-Atlantic excess free of complications like understandable lyrics. Unless you understand Italian, of course, in which case I guess theres no saving you from the cheese. (P.S. You really want the English version? Heres a video.)

Apes & Androids @ Hiro Ballroom, NYC 2/28/08
Apes & Androids @ Hiro Ballroom, NYC 2/28/08By Amrit SinghI don’t get around to posting all the shows I see, and I came close to sitting on these pictures because little’s changed about how much I love A&A during the weeks we’ve had Apes & Androids’ scary good debut Blood Moon in Heavy Rotation. Or since I launched the post with a thousand band references after their CD release show at Mercury in January. But I flipped through the shots of their Thursday show at Hiro again this weekend and realized this could be the pic spread that convinces those of you outside NYC to see them at all costs when they finally tour. A&A always up the ante (Movable Hype had the Japanese taiko drum line during “Hot Kathy,” Halloween was Thriller, Merc was just your standard extraterrestrial Ziggy-styled future-glam attire). This time’s eye candy came via bodysuited girls wearing masks and doing choreographed moves to “We Don’t Understand You.”Apes & Androids @ Hiro Ballroom, NYC 2/28/08Confetti guns were involved, too, all of which gave the night a delirious sheen just four songs in. Also, glowsticks were passed around, and that looked like this:Apes & Androids @ Hiro Ballroom, NYC 2/28/08The crowd was a weird mix of hipsters, beat-seekers, and Hiro trash. Unsurprisingly all appeared to lost their shit in equal parts, which is a sensible response to the pop-is-eating-itself crew’s anthems and going-on-legendary live show. The one attendee I couldn’t figure was the girl standing in front of me with a 12″ feather extending laterally from her hat and into my eye. Blinding fashion sense, yes, but then I realized her inspiration:

Think that Carly shouldn’t win because she had a prior record deal. She has an amazing voice. People aren’t dismissing David Archuletta(who was going to release his CD before American Idol) becuase they think he’s cute. If people dismiss Carly they have to get rid of most of the contestants.
