JEZZEBELLE
Jezzebelle was formed in 2004 when Gary Burke and Katie Carpenter met whilst
studying music performance at Ballyfermot College, Dublin. Fuelled by their
similar tastes in music they began to write and perform songs together. The
result? An amalgamation of Rock n’ Roll Quintessence, Boot Wearing Country
Sass, Seductive Melody and the Telling Tales of growing up in the Wind and
Rain of Dublin, Ireland. Both Gary and Katie wanted nothing more then for
Jezzebelle to grow in size, however this was not to be and so they settled on
moving on as a duo recording their first EP entitled ‘Reborn’ receiving
airplay on 98fm , FM104, Access and Near fm. Within months they repeated
this success with their second EP ‘Eve’.
“Absolutely great, Jezzebelle don’t sound like anybody else around”
- Tom Brannigan, 98fm
In the summer of 2006 six Jezzebelle graduated from college and set out to
earn a living from playing music. within weeks they had bagged 3-4 weekly
gigs in around the city including - The Porter House (Temple Bar) - The Mezz
(Temple Bar) - Café en Seine (Dawson St) Thomas Reads (Dame St) to
mention but a few. In this time they recorded their third EP ‘Give it up’. Using
drum samples, real bass and electric guitars, Jezzebelle produced 5 more
original tracks. Making a step towards the sound they have always envisioned
for Jezzebelle. Since late 2006, Jezzebelle have been pushing forward landing
themselves appearances on ‘City Channel’, ‘Balcony TV’ and receiving
numerous write ups from local press prior to the release of their debut
album ‘Dirt Tracks’, including a front page editorial in ‘The Life’ magazine.
‘Dirt Tracks’ is all acoustic and was released in February 2007, with the
launch taking place at The Porter House. Among the “mesmerised audience”
were some local press eager to hear the duos latest offerings. This night was
followed up with an in-store gig at Tower Records. ‘The Road Ahead’, a track
taken from the album, has won Jezzebelle a spot in the songwriting final of
An Tostal National Song Festival 2007.
Currently Jezzebelle are busy promoting ‘Dirt Tracks’. In the last 2 months
they have played a 3 night run at this years Kilkenny Rhythm And Roots
Festival. After playing the launch night for the festival in early April, ‘The
Kilkenny Advertiser’ gave the duo a full page editorial in anticipation of their arrival.
