I recently bought an Aspire 5520 laptop for the knock-down price of only £349.99 from a reputable retail outlet. This machine runs Windows Vista Home Premium. The hardware includes 3 Gbytes of RAM (more than enough!), a 160 Gbyte hard drive, an inbuilt Crystal Eye Webcam (which has great resolution), a memory card reader (which I use), a CD/DVD r/w reader and writer, and a touchpad. I bought a standard optical mouse for a few pounds and installed this without problems (Vista did NOT ask for driver software for the mouse). Since buying and installing the mouse, I have been confronted with a slow but steady degeneration of the stability of the mouse pointer, which sometimes jumps all over the screen and forces me to do a graceless physical shutdown. The problem is driving me crazy — nothing that I do seems to resolve this issue. If anybody has any suggestions as to how I can resolve this issue, I would be extremely grateful. I have downloaded all of the Microsoft updates and patches that have released since the machine was purchased, and I am running out of optisons. Sometimes the problem is so severe that the pointer literally jumps around at random, opening and shutting down software without even a single left click from me (it often opens software just by hovering over the icon on the desktop or on the toolbar). PLEASE — if anybody can suggest a solution (perhaps somebody can point me to a fresh driver download page), I would be most grateful to that person.
I am at the end of my tether. I verified that the problem is not hardware-related by using another mouse (in both cases, I used optical mice) — the problem is definitely a software problem and I am now at the end of my rope.
I look forward to suggestions….
Thank you in advance,
PHILIP
